The Male Asian Small-Clawed Otter is the smallest otter species, with a body length of 16-24 inches and a weight of 2-6 kg. Found in Southeast Asia and southern India, they thrive in diverse habitats like freshwater wetlands, marshes, and mangrove swamps. Unlike other otters, their front paws are uniquely adapted for foraging, with partial webbing and short claws for digging and catching prey like fish, mollusks, and crabs.

Social by nature, these otters live in family groups with a dominant breeding pair and their offspring. Males play a significant role in raising the cubs. They communicate using a variety of calls and are known for their playful behavior. While they can live up to 15 years, their wild populations face significant threats from habitat destruction, hunting, and illegal pet trade.

Conservation efforts are critical, as these otters are listed as vulnerable due to poaching and loss of habitat.
